Barbican talk 15th January

Tomorrow I will be giving a talk at the Barbican on the war of images in thd digital age. It is at 7pm in the Redgrave Suite on level 4. I will talk for about 40 minutes and then there will be plenty of time for responses from the audience. It would be great to see some of those interested in the Biennial there. Was at this talk yesterday. Julian touched upon a lot things I was completely unaware of. I was struck at how much influence the US administration has on reporting the Iraq war. And how in some ways there was more freedom in war reporting during the Vietnam era. It certainly gave me a lot of food for thought. Hopefully there will be more talks and discussions of this kind in the future.

It seems to me this issue will always be a complicated one. You know that the US has been taken active part in different wars. On the one hand it is a responsible of a strong country. It is a way to show that you have influence. But on the other hand it is difficult for the citizens. Not long ago I read a book about one Vietnam veteran .(It is possible to find it at the book search engine http://pdf.rapid4me.com ). The story of this man was sometimes very appalling but it became even more appalling when he said what his life was after the war. I'm indignant and it makes me very sad that the country sends people to war and then doesn't give them enough care.
